What Are You Afraid Of?

I have been mentoring some sales this weekend. Some new sales and some older sales that just need a little focused tweaking. Inevitably we usually end up talking about how sale organizers get into the business and who the other sales are in their neck of the woods.

I knew when I wrote this book that it would be popular because no one wants to give guidance to their future competition. I have been on boards and in groups who take the view that anyone within a 2 hour radius is a threat. Really? I am in an overly saturated market. It was that way when I started my sale. I helped start a sale a 1/2 mile away from my location. I am helping start and promote sales that are in markets where I pull a good deal of my shoppers from. I am not afraid.

I am not afraid of them moving into my market. Do you know why? Because the more people that are educated about consignment sales, the better the odds are that they will find me. We can work together to cross promote. We can work together to keep costs down (cross promoting means less time and money advertising and educating). With more sales, I now have to bring my A-Game, each and E-V-E-R-Y time. How much better has my sale gotten because of another sale doing some really cool and progressive thinking? MUCH better! I just don't get all the hoopla.

I don't get the jealousy. I don't get the attitude. Why would you not want to make your sale better? What are you afraid of?

Whether you are a seasoned sale organizer or just considering starting a consignment sale , examine your attitude. Your attitude comes across in everything you do. Be the best sale in town and you will never have to worry about other sales coming into your area... because your sale is the best and everyone knows it. Be that sale! Not the other one.
